Heriot Women's Institute

Heriot WI meet in Macfie Hall on the second Wednesday of each month at 19.30. We are a small group with a membership of fourteen currently. We do not meet in July or August. We are a ladies only group and are happy to welcome along any lady who would like to attend, there is no age limit. Membership costs £20 per annum and we also pay £3 each month to cover tea and biscuits and a

I think it's fair to say we are not a jam and knitting type of group - our recent demonstrators/speakers have included woodwork, rapeseed oil, birds of prey, jewellery making, ice cream, swimsuits through the years and martial arts to name a few.

We hold a monthly competion with points awarded which accumulate with the winner receiving the Sommerville Points Cup. We have an annual fundraiser where we cater for the Heriot Sheepdog Trial - this year's event will be held on Sunday 29th July. It's not just for those taking part in the Trial, everyone is welcome to come along for a breakfast roll, elevenses or lunch with a wee blether thrown in for good measure.

We also have an outing each year, usually on a Sunday in June, when we have been to the Scottish Costume Museum, Alnwick Castle, Secret Gardens in the Royal Mile, Rosslyn Chapel and lots more.

We are always looking for speakers or demonstrators so if you, or anyone you know, would like to come along and tell or show us what you do, we'll be happy to hear from you.
